Reinvigorate a heritage-significant building

A state significant building, which shares similarities with the Prime Minister’s Lodge in Canberra designed by the same architect Oakley and Parkes in 1929, is an artistic Georgiana inspiration house of character and dignity. The client purchased this heritage property, they hoped to alter the internal layout and include more parking spaces to suit his family’s needs. While respecting its innate history, we attempt to write a new chapter to its story to best suit the modern living needs. For example, some of the bedroom level’s internal walls are taken out to create bigger room size with efficient space planning for new functions, such as walk-in robes and ensuites. Other than dealing with the complexities and restrictions from a heritage-listed site, we reinvigorated the space by creating connected space with visual hints from natural light through existing openings and a vibrant and light material palette with depths. It is a happy and meaningful outcome that the clients love.
